Consent & Acceptable Use
Last updated: March 2026
Consent Is Required
AgentSMS requires that you obtain clear, affirmative consent from every person you text before sending them a message. This is not optional—it is a condition of using the API.
Primary Use Case
The intended primary use case is texting yourself or your own phone numbers as part of AI agent workflows. For example, your agent might text you when a build finishes, a threshold is triggered, or a decision needs your approval.
Beyond your own numbers, you may text other people only when:
- They have explicitly opted in to receive messages from you.
- They understand the nature and frequency of messages they will receive.
- They know how to opt out (reply STOP).
What Consent Looks Like
Acceptable consent includes:
- Direct request: You personally asked someone, “Can my agent text you updates?” and they said yes.
- Written opt-in: A form, email, or message thread where the recipient agreed to receive texts.
- Existing relationship: A teammate, collaborator, or family member who has agreed to receive agent-driven notifications.
Consent does not include:
- Purchasing a list of phone numbers.
- Scraping numbers from public sources.
- Assuming consent because someone gave you their number for a different purpose.
Acceptable Use
You may use AgentSMS to:
- Send low-volume alerts, notifications, and confirmations to consented recipients.
- Enable two-way conversational workflows where the recipient has opted in.
- Text your own phone numbers for agent testing and personal workflows.
You may not use AgentSMS to:
- Send marketing, promotional, or advertising messages.
- Contact people who have not given consent.
- Send high-volume or bulk messaging.
- Conduct political campaigns, fundraising solicitations, or sweepstakes.
- Send content that is illegal, harassing, or deceptive.
Opt-Out Handling
All recipients can reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages. AgentSMS processes opt-outs automatically. Once a recipient opts out, no further messages may be sent to that number unless they explicitly re-consent.
Enforcement
We monitor for violations of this policy. Accounts found to be in violation may be suspended or terminated without notice. We report abuse to carriers as required.
